Clean Energy Plan

In order to fully respond to the national “3060” dual carbon target and the HKSAR Government’s “Hong Kong Climate Action Blueprint 2050” carbon reduction strategy, as well as support the Group’s carbon neutrality goal, CSHK actively implements various carbon reduction measures under the direction of the “P.E.A.K. Principle”. During the Reporting Period, we launched a key initiative – “CSHK Clean Energy Plan” and made three major carbon reduction commitments.

These three carbon reduction targets are not only our response to the current climate change, the promotion of clean energy applications, and the continuous leadership in the low-carbon transformation of the construction industry but also our commitment to the future. We understand that carbon reduction efforts extend beyond the responsibility of a single industry or company. It is a collective challenge that requires the participation of society as a whole. We hope that through our efforts, we can inspire resonance among our peers, partners, and various sectors of society, and together, drive the development of low-carbon construction and create a greener Hong Kong.

Three Carbon Reduction Commitments

By 2035, all vehicles including privately-owned cars and small construction vehicles used in construction sites of CSHK will be replaced by electric vehicles

Actively explore the first hydrogen power pilot program in Hong Kong’s construction sector and the use of hydrogen energy generation in construction sites

Explore the first clean energy construction site in Hong Kong and the use of clean energy sources including electricity, solar power and hydrogen power in day-to-day operations

Introduction of the First Sany Turbo Fly’s Electric Excavator and Electric Crane in HK

CSHK is gradually implementing the use of more environmentally friendly energy on site, including biodiesel, rechargeable generators and hydrogen power generation technology. As of November 2023, CSHK has successfully introduced the first Sany Turbo Fly’s electric excavator and electric crane in Hong Kong, and held a delivery ceremony at the construction site of the “Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns project”.

The two newly introduced electro-mechanical devices are able to reduce approximately 7 tonnes and 21 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year respectively, compared to conventional equipment. Its low noise and zero air pollutant emission characteristics effectively reduce the adverse impact on the community environment, while providing workers with a cleaner and safer working environment.

Intelligent Construction Process Application

CSHK adopts MiC technology to complete a series of processes, such as steel frame assembly, welding, painting, and installation of elevator main housing in the factory.  The benefits of this approach include avoiding the need for on-site temporary work platforms, working at heights, and being limited by factors such as working hours and weather conditions. Additionally, we can simultaneously carry out the production of the elevator foundations  and on-site pedestal construction, transforming the sequential construction process into a synchronized one, thereby significantly reducing construction time.

We have successfully implemented the concept of innovation integration and utilised MiC technology for the construction of the vertical elevator No. 1. This is the first time that Hong Kong has achieved a breakthrough in the application of composite construction technology in the construction of steel frame structure vertical elevator. The success of this project marks Hong Kong’s innovative progress in the construction sector and demonstrates the strength and determination of CCHK to promote the development of the construction industry.
